Rinku Thakur from Manali became the overall champion in Alpine Premium League

The 2nd edition of Alpine Premium League took place straight after the big gap of 10 years under which different types of races were organised such as Skiing, Cross country skiing, Snowboarding for different age groups and open for all. There were more than 200 participants in which more than 50 participants were female of all age groups. The highlight of the competition was that they kept a separate category for veteran skiers (50+) in which 10 participants showed up. The event was hosted between 31st Jan to 1st Feb 2022.


Rinku Thakur participated in the snowboarding cross-board open in which there were 35 participants. Organisers divided all the participants into 5 different groups of which there were 7 participants in each group. For starting line every group was sent down from Fatru to Solang ground. Fatru is the top point of Ski Himalaya cable car. For the next round, every 2 participants were selected from each group who came 1st and 2nd in their groups and for the second round, 10 participants were selected and in which Rinku came 1st overall alongside Manish Thakur (2nd) and Suraj Thakur (3rd).

While talking to Inspire Crew Rinku said, "My goals for the future is that I'm going to Newzealand for my further education where I will be studying adventure tourism management which is 2 years course. I'll also be doing training in mountain biking and participating in its races as well as Snowboarding. My goals are to participate in world championships, gain experiences so that I can run my company as a professional mountain biker and snowboarder when I come back to my village".


Rinku who is a resident of Burwa (close to Solang valley) is lucky enough to be supported by his parents. His younger brother is also a snowboarder.
