Out on yet another incredible and record-making journey, Sayali Milind Maharao and her companion Abhijit Balu Gavali complete their 3900 kms route today from Arunachal Pradesh to Gujarat on a cycle.
This is the second record Sayali has achieved, after covering Kashmir to Kanyakumari on cycle along with partner Pooja Budhawale, last year. She’s met the ends of India within a span of one year; first north to south and now east to west.
“ The cyclist duo made this journey with a moral interest to raise awareness for Women Empowerment Through Sports and to Stop Use of Plastic .”
They started their ride on December 15, 2018 from Tezu, Arunachal Pradesh and after 32 days they have ended this commendable expedition at Koteshwar, Gujarat.
An expedition as tedious and intense as this one, with bone-chilling north-east trade winds blowing, the days growing shorter, nights growing longer and the thick fog setting in for the winters, their minds were prepared for the unforeseen challenges coming their way.
Sayali and Abhijit had to alter their route-plan mid-way through the expedition for reasons of safety, roadblocks and connectivity. But they were extremely grateful for the team working back at home who ensured to find a place for them to stay at the end of each day and actively communicated alternate routes and plans to keep up with the deadlines.
Both felt highly indebted by the love and response they received from every town and city they covered. The people they met were supportive of their campaign as well as the expedition. Not only did they help in spreading the awareness, many invited them home and bestowed them with unconditional hospitality.
They were also heartily welcomed by other cyclist and biker groups they met on their journey, who extended their best helping hands. While Sayali and Abhijit had set out without a back-up team, many joined them and rode short distances with them to provide company and support.
